Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center (TVHC) is a leading nonprofit community health center that has provided comprehensive medical, dental, and mental health care since 1971 that primarily serves the community's underserved population. TVHC is located in Hayward, California and is part of the beautiful San Francisco East Bay area.




TVHC seeks a Marketing and Communications Specialist, with experience in digital media and press communications, knowledge of community organizing and advocacy. The position will assist in developing and coordinating communications strategies and coalition communications with a focus on digital media technologies. This includes advocacy and organizational capacity via web and email based programs to advance, create and maintain the visual brand identity of the organization.


This individual will also be responsible for editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all TVHC’s publications. Will assist in the creation and design of publications, reports, e-newsletters, invitations, displays, banners, brochures, promotional materials, e-marketing and outreach campaign materials. Develop and design, posters, flyers, print advertisements and other marketing collateral materials as needed; as well as managing and evaluating the impact of TVHC’s website.


This position assumes the role of in-house subject matter expert providing quality review and assistance in developing internal and external communications for TVHC management. Marketing duties include utilizing staff/patient/client perception data and developing issue-specific informational pieces and campaigns for both internal and external clients.


The individual will report to the Chief Administrative officer/Executive Vice President (CAO/EVP) and works closely with other Executive Team Members on managing content developing for TVHC.

  • Manage and implement online advertisements, digital communication channels including websites and social media channels by creating relevant content that drives online engagement.
  • Maintaining and developing content for TVHC’s website.
  • Platforms that are used but not limited include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram LinkedIn, and Pinterest
  • Plans and executes marketing campaigns to increase community engagement and promote services and events.
  • Coordinate media interest in the Organization and ensure regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests. 
  • Position may require some local travel to meet operational needs of the clinic. 
  • Edit press and media relations, advisories and conduct outreach to media outlets.
  • Assist in the preparation and development of materials for community education.
  • Communicates and coordinates with social media stations for brand and/ or image exposure.
  • Helps to develop and consistently articulate of TVHC’s desired image in the community.
  • Create, maintain and track campaigns including reporting on results and adjustments to improve effectiveness.
  • Develops strategic plans and tactics across all written and electronic platforms and generates influencer programs that increase community engagement with TVHC brand.
  • Conducts ongoing environmental assessments using surveys, online portal(s) and other available data to inform the best possible strategies for the marketing of TVHC services.
  • Works with key management staff in selecting areas of priority for promotion of community and patient engagement.
  • Uses management data to bring synergy into the planning of clinical/patient services initiatives and execution of marketing efforts.
  • Supports the successful implementation of management selected promotion with the purpose of bolstering organizational sustainability and growth.
  • Establish extensive inroads into local, county and state print, radio, television and electronic media to market TVHC services and programs.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications public relations, journalism, graphic design, or equivalent preferred.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in marketing, graphic design and/or public relations, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in incorporating social media marketing principles into the workplace.
  • Demonstrated experience in translating non-profit missions in persuasive copy for consumers and staff, preferred
  • Spanish is not required, but preferred.
  • Basic graphic layout, design concepts, fundamentals of printing processes, composition and paste-up processes, computer aided graphic arts software, including, but not limited to Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat Professional and Quark Xpress
  • Experience in content creation, word press, branding, and use of social media.
  • Motivated, self-starter, outgoing and gregarious, engaging, articulate, and charismatic.
  • Prior experience in increasing public awareness and involvement.
