The Content Writer/Designer is responsible for carrying out the overall communication goals of Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center (TVHC) in the following areas:  a) create and maintain general communication items to staff and patients through creative content, b) design, develop, and maintain electronic and print publications for TVHC, c) general oversight of development and maintenance of our website and staff intranet along with other electronic communications technology i.e., email.


This individual will work to establish common standards of communication and cohesive organizational branding that encompasses the full suite of services provided under TVHC.  Plays an active role in reviewing and assisting in the development of key TVHC internal communications. This position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer/Executive Vice President (CAO/EVP) and works closely with other Executive Team Members on managing content development for TVHC.


This is a full-time benefited position working 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday.

  • Prepares content for various printed flyers, newsletters and updates our website and staff intranet and other social media platforms. 
  • Creates electronic graphic design pieces. 
  • Assists in the preparation and development of materials for community education. 
  • Adapts content and visualization to targeted audiences.
  • Researches, writes and edits marketing communications including but not limited to print and online articles, newsletters, videos, case studies, website content, etc. 
  • Supports providing content for employee satisfaction items for recognition and retention programs through active promotion of related activities with internal collaborators (i.e. Executive Team, Human Resources, Corporate Compliance/Quality, etc.).
  • Develops brochures, promotional materials, special promotion printing and artwork for product literature, flyers, spec sheets, etc.
  • Develops written protocols and style guides for corporate communications that are easy to access and understand for the use of internal and external TVHC stakeholders, staff and contractors. 
  • Responsible for the front-end design, development and maintenance of TVHC website and staff intranet, including working with various department staff to develop and maintain their respective pages on the website/intranet.
  • Writes appropriate audience-focused copy for a variety of print and broadcast media uses, e.g. media/press kits, pitch letters, drop in articles, press releases, talking points, fact sheets, Web displays, etc.
  • Prepares and/or produces various weekly, monthly and annual activity reports (i.e., Annual Report).
  • Works with CAO to compile, edit, review and publish monthly reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Supports brand application and adherence for our various programs and signage.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, graphic design or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a marketing, graphic designer and/or public relations, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Health care background with a demonstrated experience in translating non-profit missions in persuasive coy for consumers and staff, preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in SharePoint, web design, html, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash and JavaScript highly preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English required to write marketing information, public service announcements, press releases, reports, memos, business correspondence, etc., as needed or directed by the Chief Administrative Officer and other executive management team member.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, prioritize, and competently manage a variety of activities with multiple deadlines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of print and broadcast news media operations.
  • Demonstrated skill in analyzing communications needs and in developing and implementing short-term and long-term communications plans and evaluating results.
