Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Dental Officer and the general supervision of a licensed dentist, the Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) performs basic supportive dental procedures specified by codes and regulations of the Dental Board of California. The RDA works with dental providers (DDS) assisting with various clinical procedures, recognized by the California Dental Practice Act. The RDA will also adhere to current infection control procedures, “Universal Precautions”.


Typically Monday through Friday hours with periodic Saturday hours.  

 

The ideal candidate has excellent customer service skills working with diverse populations.  Previous dental office work experience is a plus. 

  

Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center, Inc. is a non-profit community health center that is dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of our community by providing accessible, high quality care by integrating primary care, dental care, WIC support, mental health counseling, community health education and more.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares instruments and materials; cleans/sterilizes and maintains functioning instruments and equipment, prepares inventory on equipment and dental supplies.
  • Greets patients in the waiting area and escorts patient to the operatory.
  • Reviews and records medical/dental history and vital signs of patient as needed.
  • Reviews daily schedule to set up appropriate trays and instruments.
  • Assists with various procedures, which include but are not limited to charting, taking and pouring up of impressions and other chair side duties.
  • Stocks operatories and necessary dental supplies.
  • Delivers oral hygiene instruction in accordance with protocol and in cooperation with health education activities of the Clinic.
  • Performs temporization, coronal polish, sealants and any other duty assigned to him/her according to the Codes and Regulations of the Dental Board of California.
  • Provides assistance to Dental Department, front and back office, as determined by Dentist or Dental Provider based on changing patient flow and clinic needs.
  • Assures completion of forms and signatures; assists in maintenance of patient records.
  • Performs back-up Dental Receptionist duties as needed or directed by supervisory staff in order to ensure smooth and efficient operations of dental office.
  • Takes, develops and mounts necessary x-ray per protocol (CA x-ray certification required).
  • Performs all duties in support of EDR sytem.
  • Performs other related duties in support of dental/clinical services as may be assigned by Chief Dental Officer.

Qualifications

Requirments:

  • High school Graduate (or GED).
  • Possession of current RDA license.

Preferred:

  • Completion of Radiation Safety Course (California X-ray) strongly preferred.
  • Certificate for coronal polisd sealants is recommended.
  • Minimum of one-year experience in a dental setting preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

  • Strong verbal communication skills and knowledge of dental health education subjects; ability to effectively communicate with patient population and staff; demonstrate a high degree of diplomacy and tact.
  • Culturally sensitive and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with ethnically diverse populations.
  • Working knowledge of “Universal Precautions,” demonstrates professionalism at all times.
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends; demonstrates flexibility in regards to job duties and assignments.
  • Excellent communication skills at level necessary for taking patients' medical histories, understanding provider and supervisors instructions, and for accurately documenting patients' medical information.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patient population and staff while demonstrating a high degree of diplomacy and tact.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress and fast-moving environment.
  • Culturally sensitive and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with ethnically diverse populations.
  • Working knowledge of “Universal Precautions,” demonstrates professionalism at all times.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality and non-disclosure according to the general standards set forth by HIPAA.
