The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for meeting the strategic and operational goals of Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center (TVHC) in the following major functional areas of marketing and communications: a) general marketing, communications and branding, b) creation, development, and maintenance of all electronic and print publications for TVHC, c) the oversight of the development and maintenance of all websites and other electronic communications technology, d) handle and/or coordinate all media relations.

The overall purpose of the position is to plan, design, implement, and facilitate all marketing and communication activities of TVHC and for the management of organizational communications across all programs and sites.  This individual will work to establish common standards of communication and cohesive organizational branding and marketing strategy that encompasses the full suite of services provided under TVHC.   Assumes the role of in-house subject matter expert providing quality review and assistance in developing internal and external communications for TVHC management.  Marketing duties include utilizing staff/patient/client perception data and developing issue-specific informational pieces and campaigns for both internal and external clients.
This dynamic position is also responsible for ongoing planning of community engagement using print, social media, text, email and live events to increase public awareness and involvement with them. 
Position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer/Executive Vice President (CAO/EVP) and works closely with the CEO and other Executive Team members on various community engagement projects. 


  • Oversee communication efforts including development of communication and marketing plans to connect with target audiences through traditional and digital communication channels.
  • Lead the development of content for print and digital communication materials, videos, and infographics. Provide overall quality control for all such products.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify client needs and generate innovative ideas to engage key audiences.
  • Provides technical input into translating research data into persuasive communication products.
  • Supports employee satisfaction, recognition and retention programs through active promotion of related activities with internal collaborators (i.e. Executive Team, Human Resources, Corporate Compliance/Quality, etc.)
  • Manage digital communication channels including websites and social media channels by creating relevant content that drives online engagement including FB, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn & Pinterest.
  • Contributes actively to business development efforts and then develops product messaging and marketing materials for TVHC services by generating press releases, advertising, web content, printed collateral, newsletters, and other product/service promotions. Coordinate with staff, subcontractors, other and partners, and clients to establish project workflows and timelines for these business efforts.
  • Develop and execute strategic printed and social media plans. Effectively manage all printed and social media platforms.
  • Write and design short and long-form content in a story-telling format that resonates with various audiences, manage the content calendar, monitor and report metrics, and build effective marketing processes that build strong community engagement.
  • Understand and develop market positioning and develop product applications to meet those needs.

  • Development of brochures, promotional materials, special promotion printing and artwork and other collateral management (product literature, flyers, spec sheets, etc.)
  • Design, implement, and facilitate annual marketing plan for TVHC.
  • Manage all corporate communications and branding activities.
  • Oversees external public relations efforts.
  • Create new product/service messaging, key selling features, competitive analysis and promotional programs.
  • Ensure consistent use of brand guidelines. Ensure that all forms of external communications including collaterals, e-bulletins, etc. comply with corporate branding guidelines 
  • Create, maintain and track campaigns including reporting on results and adjustments to improve effectiveness.
  • Develops strategic plans and tactics across all written and electronic platforms and generates influencer programs that increase community engagement with TVHC brand.
  • Gathers existing corporate branding and communications collateral for the purpose of creating a centralized repository. Serves as organizational historian of all current and past marketing and public campaigns. 
  • Develops written protocols and style guides for corporate communications that are easy to access and understand for the use of internal and external TVHC stakeholders, staff and contractors. Assists in all marketing efforts both internal and external, often taking the lead on branding creation and idea development.
  • Conducts ongoing environmental assessments using surveys, online portal(s) and other available data to inform the best possible strategies for the marketing of TVHC services. Works with key management staff in selecting areas of priority for promotion of community and patient engagement.
  • Assists in the development of TVHC Corporate Design Identity.
  • Provides Leadership in all TVHC Marketing and Promotional Initiatives.
  • Works closely with CAO and Executive Management to establish priorities for marketing, promotion and community engagement efforts.
  • Uses management data to bring synergy into the planning of clinical/patient services initiatives and execution of marketing efforts. Supports the successful implementation of management selected promotion with the purpose of bolstering organizational sustainability and growth.
  • Actively participates and supports the promotion of the organizational Strategic Plan among staff, management and Board of Directors of TVHC.
  • Serves as the lead facilitator and project manager in charge of new marketing and promotion initiatives.
  • Establish extensive inroads into local, county and state print, radio, television and electronic media to market TVHC services and programs.
  • Responsible for the front-end design, development and maintenance of TVHC website and staff intranet, including working with various department staff to develop and maintain their respective pages on the website/intranet.
  • Write appropriate audience-focused copy for a variety of print and broadcast media uses, e.g. media/press kits, pitch letters, drop in articles, press releases, talking points, fact sheets, Web displays, etc.
  • Submits Regular Reporting for Management, BOD and Stakeholders
  • Prepares and/or produces various weekly, monthly and annual activity reports (i.e., Annual Report) emphasizing key accomplishments and summarizing activities.
  • Works with CAO to compile, edit, review and publish monthly CAO Report to the Board of Directors.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, journalism, graphic design or equivalent preferred.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a marketing, graphic design, and/or public relations, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in website design, and incorporating social media marketing principles into the workplace.
  • Demonstrated experience in translating non-profit missions in persuasive copy for consumers and staff.
  • Health care background preferred.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English required to write marketing information, public service announcements, press releases, reports, memos, business correspondence, etc., as needed or directed by the Chief Administrative Officer and other executive management team member.
  • Strong program/project management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Advanced knowledge of MSWord, Desktop Publishing software and MS PowerPoint.
  • Experience in SharePoint, web design, html, Microsoft Office, FrontPage, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, and JavaScript highly preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of complex health issues as they relate to the Latino community and communities of color and as addressed by nonprofit community clinics and federally qualified health centers (FQHC) – another phrase for highly preferred?
  • Demonstrated knowledge of print and broadcast news media operations.
  • Demonstrated skill in analyzing communications needs and in developing and implementing short-term and long-term communications plans and evaluating results.
