Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Dental Officer and the general supervision of a licensed dentist, the Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) primarily provides dental hygiene services and general preventive dental care as permitted by licensure from the state of California. The RDH must be professional, objective, and have superior customer service standards.

 

This is a part-time on-call position (typically 2 days per week during clinic hours, Monday through Friday). The ideal candidate has excellent customer service skills working with diverse populations.  Previous dental office work experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform operatory disinfection, instrument sterilization and equipment maintenance procedures according to departmental policy.
  • Provide prophylaxis, scaling, root planning, and curettage services to our patients. Provide fluoride treatments and apply pit and fissure sealants.
  • Collaborate with dentists in determining a dental care plan for each patient.
  • Evaluate patients with periodontal disease using diagnostic skills, periodontal probe, and periodontal evaluation electronic templates in the electronic dental record (EDR.)
  • Complete charting of existing intraoral conditions into the EDR.
  • Provide oral hygiene instructions to patients and parents/caregivers.
  • Assist clinical staff in optimizing patient flow. This will include restocking items, seating patients, ‘floating’, and supporting other dental team members with patient care. Perform all duties approved by the California Dental Board for a RDH with excellence and in accordance with the Dental Practice Act of California.
  • Perform expanded duties under direct supervision of a dentist to the extent the law permits.
  • Operate radiographic equipment for the purpose of oral radiography.
  • Attend regularly scheduled site meetings and trainings.
  • Be knowledgeable on programs related to the dental department. This will include grant scopes of work, insurances, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with, and support the activities of the clinical data team, ensuring optimal accuracy and performance on clinical outcome measures.
  • Collaborate with administration in addressing staff and member complaints.
  • Maintain positive public relations with members, guests and staff.
  • Member Care: Demonstrate understanding and apply working knowledge of safety policies and ensuring safe member practices.
  • Employee Safety: Safely performs all duties; follows required protective protocols to ensure personal safety as well the safety of others.
  • Must maintain compliance with ergonomic safety standards; be mindful of posture and regularly practice ergonomic stretches.
  • Be able to see between 8-10 members per day, and complete accurate documentation into the electronic dental record (EDR) system.
  • Be an active educator and available for consultation with dental team members, including dental externs, residents, hygienists, assistants, specialists and consultants and other integrative services team members.
  • Provide comprehensive, high quality dental services to members, regardless of age, sex, gender identification, income, national origin or language.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Dental Officer or assigned Dentist.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Must have a current RDH license to practice in the state of California and have current dental radiology and CPR certificates.

Job Preferences:

  • Experience using digital radiography and EDR system.
  • Three (3+) years’ experience working with vulnerable populations.
  • Work experience providing customer service, and/or interacting with the public in a service-based position.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

  • Work well under pressure, meet multiple and often competing deadlines.
  • At all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with supervisors, subordinates, colleagues, clients and the community.
  • Must have the ability to travel, without notice, to various clinic sites.
